Considered "one of the most talented and original new voices in African-American literature," Roy is an award winning author. Lady Moses, The Hotel Alleluia, and her award-winning book of poetry, The Humming Birds, are a few titles by this very compelling writer.

In this after school special, librarians, teachers and students discuss with Roy the difference between narrative and prose voice, themes of race, and bloodlines. Ms. Roy reads from her acclaimed debut novel Lady Moses and “My Son,” from The Humming Birds.
